The Richmond LARKS (Ladies Acts of Random Kindness and Service) held a luncheon Saturday, February 11 to raise awareness of Safe Harbor and the issues of sexual and domestic violence. Approximately 100 persons were in attendance at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club to learn more and support the cause.
Randy Fitzgerald was the keynote speaker. Safe Harbor’s Community Organizing Manager, Stacie Vecchietti inspired and educated the crowd about Safe Harbor and the complexities of the issues of sexual and domestic violence. Sharon Reck provided musical accompaniment for the event.
The LARKS organized in January 2011 to support local schools and non-profits. This informal, flexible group focuses its efforts on the RVA community. The group has supported Safe Harbor through various projects. Other groups served included local schools, veterans groups, food banks, youth-serving organizations, and those supporting our aging population.
The group members created centerpieces made of frequently needed items in Safe Harbor’s safe house. Compelled by the issue and moving speeches, many participants chose to support Safe Harbor financially.
