Safe Harbor lost a member of the family on January 26 when Judy Varanelli, court advocate, passed away unexpectedly following a short illness. Judy is survived by her husband Michael, of 31 years. A funeral was held Connecticut.

Judy first joined the team in 2009 as a volunteer court advocate shortly after the program started. She was dedicated to Safe Harbor and even managed the court advocacy program on an interim basis when there was a change in staff. Judy officially joined the team as a staff member in July, 2016. Judy was compassionate with the clients she helped in the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and extremely organized. She has an amazing way of connecting to clients and putting them at ease during a very stressful time. She is greatly missed.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Safe Harbor. A Celebration of Life will be held this spring in Richmond. If you would like more information when a date is available, please contact Marisa at marisa@safeharborshelter.com.
