MAXIMUS Foundation check presentation Alica Carruthers of the MAXIMUS Foundation visited Safe Harbor and presented us with a check for $1,500.  The donation will be used to support costs associated with Children’s Counseling Program.

Daisy Troop 5183 designated Safe Harbor as their charity of choice during their recent cookie sale drive.  The troop delivered boxes of yummy cookies to be shared with our families.

Monument Heights Baptist Church “Love in Action” Day On April 21, various groups within the congregation showered the community with some amazing service projects. We are thankful for this inspiring congregation, and are touched by their generosity and acts of kindness.

• The children’s project, led by Ashley Cogbill, involved the children painting pillowcases with inspirational pictures and words for the families in our safe house.
• One of the women’s groups, led by Kim Britton-Oliver, worked all day sewing tote bags for our hospital accompaniment program.  The much needed bags will be used to deliver personal care items to the survivors we support in local emergency rooms.
• An adult group, led by Joanne Ferrall, participated in a donation drive, bringing much needed supplies for our safe house.

Volunteer Appreciation Gifts

Thank you to Safe Harbor’s amazing volunteers!

Safe Harbor recognized the significant contributions made by its volunteers during a special ceremony held April 17, 2012. A dessert reception was held with desserts prepared by staff — a small token of our appreciation for volunteers’ service. Volunteers were honored for their years of service and received appreciation gifts relative to their length of service.

Safe Harbor’s talented volunteers provide over 600 hours of service to the agency and to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence each month. Without our volunteers, Safe Harbor could not serve the over 1,000 survivors reached annually.

• Jewish Women’s International donated Mother’s Day gifts from OPI and a beautiful rose bouquet to the survivors of intimate partner violence we serve.
• 103.7 the River (and the talented Melissa Chase) and the Richmond Flying Squirrels hosted a community-wide donation drive to support Safe Harbor during the Squirrels Mother’s Day game.
• Fly Divaz Social Club donated Mother’s Day gifts and a special dinner for the mothers living in our emergency shelter.
• Victoria’s Secret Short Pump store collected donations for the survivors of sexual and domestic violence served by Safe Harbor.
• Richmond Mommies Downtown and Cities groups put together gift bags for the women and children living in our safe houses during Mother’s Day.

JWI Mother's Day Gifts

103.7 the River and Richmond Flying Squirrels

Join us this Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at the James Center (1051 East Cary Street, RVA) to witness a shimmy mob. Belly dancers from Richmond, Hampton, Virginia Beach and the surrounding areas will be performing to raise money and collect items for Safe Harbor.

We’ll be posting a video of the performance on our facebook page!

This international dance event will raise money for women’s and children’s shelters around the globe. We’re so honored to have been chosen!

Safe Harbor will have representatives at the event to answer questions about the services provided to support those impacted by sexual and domestic violence.
